Kestrin Cropmane - Herder of Cinderglade's Fire-Touched Herds
A centaur herder who tends, not hunts, Cinderglade's ash-touched wildlife - flame elk, ashmanes, and lavastriders - and keeps her herd safe as something unseen stirs at the edge of the Verdant Shroud.
Introduction
Ask anyone in Cinderglade who to see about a limping ashmane, a spooked lavastrider, or a flame elk calf that won't stop crying for its mother, and they'll point you toward whichever herd is grazing nearest the old cooled flow that week — and tell you to look for the centaur walking at the edge of it, not the middle. Kestrin Cropmane has spent her whole life learning that a herd is safest when nobody, herder included, stands in the center of it. She doesn't hunt what she tends, and she doesn't sell what she hasn't watched grow up. In a settlement that trades in fire-touched pelts and sunbaked textiles, she's the reason there's still a herd left to shear.
Profile
Name: Kestrin Cropmane
Race: Centaur
Gender: Female
Alignment: Neutral Good
Role/Class: Herder of Cinderglade's Ashmane Herds
Challenge Rating: 2
"You don't tame a flame elk. You earn the right to walk beside one, and you never stop earning it."
Appearance: Kestrin stands a full head taller than most of Cinderglade's other centaurs, her lower body a deep sorrel-and-ash dapple that fades to soot-grey at the fetlocks — a coloring the herd-riders call "born already halfway to ash." Her human torso is lean and sun-cured, forearms corded from years of pulling calves out of mud and carrying wounded fawns across her own back. She wears a mantle of stitched flaretail pelts, worn more for the animals' comfort against her shoulders on cold nights than for her own warmth, and keeps her dark mane cropped close so it won't spook a nervous yearling. She carries a long herder's goad more often as a walking staff than a weapon, and a coiled lead-rope of fire-cured hide slung across one shoulder, worn soft and pale where her hands have gripped it ten thousand times.
