Marta Stonewell - Innkeeper of the Boar and Blossom
At Haltcross Hamlet's crossroads inn, Marta Stonewell enforces the one rule that keeps a cosmopolitan trade hub from boiling over: leave your grudge at the door.
Introduction
Haltcross Hamlet doesn't sit quietly at the edge of anything — it sits astride the crossroads themselves, where the roads to the Wanderlust Plains, Saltspray Swamp, and the lands further south all cross the Verdant Weald's oldest travel routes. Wagons roll in from every direction at once, and sooner or later every one of them stops at the same two-story timber building with a stable yard perpetually too small for the traffic it draws. Behind its bar stands the reason the peace mostly holds: a woman who has heard every accent Eldervast has to offer, settled more quarrels than the hamlet's own reeve, and never once had to raise her voice to do it.

"Leave your grudge at the stable door. I've got room for your horse, your coin, and your temper — in that order, and only two of the three overnight."
Appearance: Marta is a solidly built woman in her fifties, her forearms roped with the muscle of decades hauling kegs and splitting kindling. Graying hair is kept in a practical knot pinned back with a carved wooden hairpin, and a permanently flour-and-ale-stained apron covers a plain wool dress. An iron ring of keys hangs at her hip beside a stout, well-worn cudgel she's never once had to use twice on the same patron. Her eyes are a pale, unhurried gray — the kind that catch a hand drifting toward a hilt before its owner has decided to draw.
