Every merchant in Brightcrown's Market Ward tells a slightly different story about what really happened during the turmoil, but only one gnome in a green-and-gold sash can tell you, to the ounce, what any of it is actually worth today. Perrin Gaugewright isn't glamorous, and he'd be the first to say so, but no coin changes hands in the Rebuilt Market without eventually crossing his scale. For DMs building out the Market Ward's day-to-day texture, he's the quiet authority who makes every other transaction feel real.

Appearance: Perrin stands barely three feet tall but somehow takes up more room than that at a crowded stall. He's round-faced and silver-bearded well before his time, with ink-black fingertips that never quite scrub clean and a brass loupe on a chain that he flips up over one eye whenever a merchant starts talking too fast. He dresses in the deep gold-and-green sash of the Trade Guild Consortium over a plain brown coat with dozens of small pockets, each holding a calibrated weight, a touchstone, a vial of testing acid, or a folded receipt. A satchel scale rides on his hip like a holstered weapon, because to Perrin, it basically is one.
