Broadtusk - The Mammoth

Broadtusk - The Mammoth

The wind goes quiet when she decides to move. Then the earth remembers it has bones.

Role in Its Society:

Broadtusk leads a migratory herd that stitches the Whispering Tundra together along ancient salt paths—living snowplows that open routes behind them for wolves, caribou, and people. Her choices—when to cross the river ice, when to skirt the black cliffs, when to calve—become local calendars. Hunters revere her trail as a covenant; poachers see a fortune in ivory. Druids say she “knows” the winter—where the crust won’t bear, when the storm will break—and other megafauna cue off her trumpet. When she falls, a season starves.

Appearance Description:

A towering mammoth with a high, snow-crowned shoulder hump and a shag of ice-matted, cinnamon-to-coal fur. Twin tusks sweep long and slightly asymmetrical: the right bears wind-carved runes from decades of rubbing cairns; the left is blunted near the tip from breaking river ice. Frost halos her breath; old scars ladder the flank, silvery under the coat. Leather tags—tokens from grateful caravans—are braided into her tail hair.

Backstory:

Born during a black ice winter, Broadtusk’s dam broke through a river and never surfaced. A winter eladrin druid coaxed the calf to shore and laid a ritual on the herd: remember the crossings. Broadtusk grew into leadership after an iron trap maimed the old matriarch. Since then she has destroyed every metal scent along the trail—trampling stakes, uprooting snare poles, knocking cairns that hide deadfall. The drift herds follow her scar in the snow.
