Fenra Underbough – Halfling Lantern-Keeper
“Light doesn’t stop the dark—but it tells you where you’re standing.”
Name: Fenra Underbough
Race: Halfling
Role/Class: Lantern-Keeper / Community Artisan (Expert/Commoner+)
Appearance: Fenra Underbough is a small, round-faced halfling woman with warm brown skin and thick, curly hair usually tucked beneath a patchwork headscarf. Her cheeks are often smudged with soot or glow-moss residue, and her hands are perpetually stained with oil, resin, and dye. Her eyes are a soft amber color, always bright with recognition—even when her smile is subdued.
She dresses practically but with gentle flair: layered skirts reinforced at the hem, a fitted vest full of hidden pockets, and a heavy apron stitched with lantern sigils. At her belt hang small tools—wick shears, glow-stone fragments, and tiny glass lenses. When she walks at night, she often carries one of her own lanterns, casting a steady, comforting light that seems warmer than it should be.

Backstory
Fenra was born into a family of reed-weavers and net-menders, but her calling revealed itself during a tragedy. As a young adult, she survived a ferry capsizing that claimed several villagers. In the days that followed, bodies drifted back to the reeds at night, unmarked and unnamed. Fenra began crafting floating lanterns so families could find and honor their dead.
What began as mourning became tradition. Fenra refined her craft—combining alchemical glow moss, marsh oils, and etched glass—creating lanterns that could float for hours without extinguishing. Over time, her lanterns became essential to Brinelands rites: remembrance vigils, safe-night crossings, and seasonal flood ceremonies.
Fenra does not see herself as spiritual or powerful. She simply believes that people deserve to be seen, even at the end.
