Kaathrix - The Blue Slaad
There’s a rhythm in the air... a thrum like breath beneath skin. They say if you stand too long near the Shatterfen Pools, your heartbeat starts to match it — and that’s when he finds you.
Role in Its Society:
Kaathrix is a vector — not merely a monster, but a carrier of Limbo’s primal entropy. While blue slaadi are known for brute strength and violent reproduction through parasitic egg-laying, Kaathrix has evolved into a cultic figure among chaos-worshippers. To slaadi, he is a "Pulse-Twin," one who channels the beat of the Spawning Stone. Some aberrant-minded mortals believe Kaathrix is an oracle of the Far Realm, though his utterances rarely align with mortal logic.
Kaathrix is sometimes summoned by mad sorcerers, cults, or entities trying to harness or spread chaos. He leaves ruin, deformity, and unstable magic in his wake.
Appearance Description:
Kaathrix towers at nearly ten feet, a hulking amphibian covered in cerulean-blue sinew, scars glowing with internal prismatic pulses. His claws seem to shimmer slightly out of sync with the rest of his body — like echoes of movement ahead of time. Where his heart should be, a translucent nodule pulses visibly beneath the skin, glowing with raw chaos magic. His voice sounds as if several tones speak at once, never quite matching his mouth's movement.
Backstory:
Spawned near the Shifting Crater in Veridya’s Duskhaven, Kaathrix was twisted in form by a planar rift bleeding Limbo into the material world. Unlike other blue slaadi who simply propagate and die in madness, Kaathrix absorbed the echo of the Spawning Stone's pulse — giving him an unnatural cohesion of thought and hunger for more than violence. He became semi-lucid, obsessed with rhythm, growth, and "re-seeding the pattern."
He has since become a recurring plague: showing up across regions from the Nevermoors to Mangrove Marshlands, leaving behind warped spawn that mutate and spread.
