A midwife of blizzards and broken spirits who teaches winter how to linger—and people how to suffer quietly.
Role in Its Society:
Kravessa is not a ruler of ice, nor a guardian of the wilds. She is a parasite on despair, embedding herself wherever winter already strains the living. Mountain villages, isolated steads, pilgrim routes, and half-abandoned keeps are her preferred haunts—places where the cold isn’t just weather, but a test of morale. She doesn’t conquer settlements; she rots them from within, stretching lean seasons longer, turning neighbors against one another, and ensuring that hope freezes before bodies do.
Appearance Description:
Kravessa’s form is bent and angular, her frame wrapped in layered shawls of frost-stiff cloth and animal hides that never seem to fully thaw. Her skin is corpse-pale and cracked like old ice, etched with blue veins that pulse faintly when she works her magic. Long, stringy white hair hangs around her face, frozen into uneven clumps, and her eyes glow a dull, hateful blue from deep-set sockets. Her fingers are elongated and clawed, nails blackened and rimed with frost, and her breath escapes in thin, whispering plumes even when the air is still.
Backstory:
Kravessa was born not in a coven, but in a winter famine. She crawled from a snow-choked ravine near a dying village, drawn by grief, hunger, and the sound of prayers whispered through chattering teeth. Where others saw tragedy, she saw potential.
She learned early that winter breaks people best when it feels endless. A storm that passes is endured. A storm that never quite ends becomes belief. Kravessa wanders from place to place, embedding herself in communities just long enough to sour them—teaching the cold to linger, teaching people to blame one another, then vanishing when the final collapse begins.
