Old Tamber Pike

Old Tamber Pike

“If the wind swallows your name, the bell will give it back—once.”

Rich

Name: Tamber Pike
Race: Human
Role: Bellfounder, Pass Warden (expert artisan)
Appearance: A broad-shouldered man in his late sixties, Tamber’s skin is weather-cracked and soot-smudged from a lifetime at the foundry. Iron-gray hair spills from beneath a scorched cap; his beard is long, yet neatly trimmed. He wears a heavy leather apron over layered wool, a tuning hammer at his belt and a polished pitch pipe on a thong around his neck. His hands—scarred, powerful, steady—turn even a simple handbell into something solemn.

Backstory

Born to caravan teamsters, Tamber grew up on mountain stairs and switchbacks. When a rockslide robbed a bell tower of its keeper, he stayed to help re-hang the bronze and never left. Over four decades he became the pass’s bellfounder and toll-keeper, casting ward-bells, timing patrols, and maintaining signal codes that carry through the gale. He swears by honest weight, even tone, and “no free crossings.” Bandits hate him; merchants trust him; the watch treats him like a stubborn uncle who always, always shows up when the sky turns.
