Appearance: Pesha is small and sturdy, her copper-brown skin perpetually smudged with soot and resin. Curly black hair is corralled beneath a wool cap; round slag-glass goggles usually rest atop her brow, leaving pale circles around bright, shrewd eyes. She wears a quilted work-jacket over a reinforced leather apron stitched with little tool loops and heat-scorch marks. A bandolier carries thumb-sized heatstones in stoppered brass sleeves, and a compact stovewright’s satchel hangs at her hip beside a folding coal shovel. Her favored tool is a steel “gnomewrench” with a ratcheting jaw and a knurled, heat-resistant handle.

Backstory

Born to a tinker caravan that wintered on the southern skirt of the Whispering Tundra, Pesha learned early that a shared stove keeps tempers—and people—alive. After a thaw-season tour through Brightcrown, she followed a rumor north that Frosthold lost three families to smoke and cold when old iron stoves cracked. She stayed, founded Quickflint & Daughter (Someday) on the quay road, and rebuilt the town’s heating from hearth to street—codifying chimney sweeps, installing safer potbellies in worker barracks, and popularizing her sealed “glowstone” brazier for sled convoys. She supplies Vedra’s night patrols with service-warmers, fits Odel’s apprentices with hand-bricks, and lays steam lines to Salla’s hall for mediation nights that run long. When storms roll in off the Tempest Peaks, she walks the alley grid, tapping pipes and listening. Frosthold calls her “the woman who keeps nights kind.”
