The Vaultwarden of Tyrr-Rathak - The Iron Golem

The Vaultwarden of Tyrr-Rathak - The Iron Golem

It doesn’t bleed, doesn’t speak, doesn’t stop. You don’t steal from Tyrr-Rathak — not twice. The golem remembers.

Role in Its Society:

Forged deep within the molten halls of Tyrr-Rathak, an ancient dwarven vault-city lost to time and greed, the Vaultwarden exists as the final executor of dwarven vengeance and protection. Designed by smith-priests to stand eternal, it was bound to a sacred geas: protect the treasury, destroy all thieves, and never leave the vault — unless betrayed.

It now stalks the ruins not merely as a guardian, but a punisher, animated by echoes of dwarven wrath. Mercenaries call it “The Walking Tax,” and treasure hunters whisper that it doesn’t just protect gold — it punishes greed itself.

Appearance Description:

Impossibly broad and carved of darkened iron with a blue-black sheen, the Vaultwarden towers over most humanoids. Its shoulders are engraved with faded dwarven runes of warding, many scratched out or cracked.

The most distinctive feature: a massive, rune-inscribed sword, far too large for a human to wield — though the golem handles it with grace. Its helm bears a permanent grimace, glowing orange from within like forge coals. Though its limbs move with weight, there's a terrifying grace to its stride.

Backstory:

Created by the Forge-Priests of Tyrr-Rathak, the Vaultwarden was the greatest of the Iron Sentinels, its body folded over three days and three nights beneath divine flame. A soul fragment from a penitent war criminal was bound into its core — cursed to serve instead of burn.

When Tyrr-Rathak fell in the Greedwar Rebellion, the Vaultwarden was betrayed from within. Yet instead of falling, it awoke from magical dormancy and tore down both invader and traitor alike. Its geas altered — now it guards the vault not for its people, but for vengeance, justice, and the idea of unclaimed wealth.

It waits among the treasure piles, silent and still, until a foot disturbs the gold.
