Thrain Stoneweather — Ice Road Warden
“Roads aren’t found in winter; they’re built—one anchor, one breath, one brave step at a time.”
Name: Thrain Stoneweather
Race: Goliath
Role: : Ice Road Warden & Convoy Marshal
Appearance: A towering wall of muscle and quiet focus, Thrain’s granite-gray skin is marbled with pale striations like wind-scoured cliff faces. His scalp is shaved save for a braided ridge-crest threaded with colored route cords. He wears a half-plate cuirass under a fur-lined work parka, cramponed boots, and heavy gauntlets scarred by rope-burns. A long, hook-headed glaive doubles as a sounding staff; a belt harness carries pitons, ice saw, auger, chalk puffs, measuring line, and signal horn. His eyes are winter-sky blue—clear, assessing, patient.

Backstory
Born among the First Ones near Gol-kae in the Tempest Peaks, Thrain grew up where a misjudged step can turn a life into an echo. Apprenticed to cliffwrights, he learned to read snowpack and ice the way others read ink. When Frosthold began formalizing a winter ice road across the southern Whispering Tundra to link the quay, market, and pass approaches, Thrain was hired to make the dangerous dependable. He designed flag-line corridors, trained sled crews to “rope in” during whiteouts, and mapped seasonal bridges over pressure seams. He measures his years not by feasts but by convoys delivered intact. Off duty, he carves tiny wooden cairns for those who didn’t make it—each set on a shelf until the thaw returns them home.
