Palace Records Office
Stack Level B of the Palace Records Office sits quietly on the second floor of the administrative wing, a long rectangular archive reserved for the paperwork of governance that no one expects to read again.
The room is packed with rows of towering wooden shelves filled with routine correspondence, completed tax tallies, patrol reports, and decades-old ledgers. These shelves form tight corridors that wind through the room like a paper maze, where visibility rarely stretches beyond fifteen feet and footsteps echo softly against the stone floor.
At the north end, narrow windows admit pale daylight that mingles with the glow of oil lamp sconces mounted between shelving units. A sturdy reading table beneath the windows holds the day’s pulled files — stacks of parchment awaiting review or return to storage. At the far south wall, a plain wooden door marked “File Transfer — Authorized Access” leads into a little-used maintenance corridor. Darro knows this route well, but most palace clerks have passed through it only once or twice, if ever.
Intended Use:
The Palace Records Office is an ideal setting for stealth missions, document retrieval, or close-quarters combat in a confined and disorienting environment. The dense shelving rows create a maze of tight corridors where sightlines are short and sound travels unpredictably. Characters must navigate carefully through narrow passages, making positioning and awareness crucial. This map works especially well for investigative encounters where the party searches for specific records before guards arrive.
