Sereth Caulbrand - The Skeleton
The bones walk not because they must—but because he wills it. You may shatter their skulls, but so long as his crown remains, so does the war.
Role in Its Society:
Sereth Caulbrand is a sentient skeletal warcaster, once a minor noble and battlefield necromancer who raised an army from the fallen dead. When his body was reduced to bone, his soul clung stubbornly to the bone dust of his estate. Now he acts as a bonewright—a skeletal commander who not only leads undead, but crafts and binds them by hand.
In necromantic circles, Sereth is a tactician of terror, his name invoked by those studying intelligent undeath. Among superstitious commoners, he’s a ghost king, rumored to rebuild armies of bone in the ruins of his shattered manor.
Appearance Description:
Sereth is a tall, polished skeleton adorned with elegant but cracked ceremonial armor. His ribcage is wrapped in thin chains and fractured bone sigils. His right hand is missing fingers, replaced with binding rings that glow faintly with necrotic energy. A splintered circlet of blackened bone sits on his brow, and the vertebrae of unknown creatures are stitched into his cloak like trophies.

Backstory:
In life, Sereth was a mid-ranking noble obsessed with defeating death—not out of fear, but to command loyalty beyond the grave. During the Siege of Witherhall, he raised his own family’s bones to defend the estate. Though he died in the final assault, the necromantic energy of his failed phylactery ritual left his essence bound to his remains.
Now, centuries later, Witherhall is a crumbling estate overrun with silent skeletons who repair halls, arrange old furniture, and ready weapons—awaiting a war that never came. Sereth does not sleep. He prepares.
