Sir Alric the Hollow - The Helmed Horror

Role in Its Society:
Sir Alric was once a knight of unshakable honor, a paladin of a long-dead god of justice. After his kingdom fell to betrayal and sorcery, his soul was bound by a forgotten enchantment—a cruel attempt to weaponize his undying loyalty. Now animated as a Helmed Horror, Alric exists as an executioner of broken oaths, roaming ruins and battlefields in search of those who make promises they never intended to keep.
He is feared across Veridya as a grim myth—“The Crimson Vow”—appearing where warlords make pacts in bad faith or when alliances crumble in blood. Some cults even summon him deliberately, sacrificing oathbreakers to redirect his wrath.
Appearance Description:
Sir Alric’s armor is a masterwork of blackened steel, inlaid with crimson velvet and adorned with arcane filigree. His helm is hollow, but twin glowing red eyes glare from the void within. A deep scarlet cloak, torn and wind-ragged, flows behind him like blood on stone. His blade is gold-forged, runed with divine symbols, now warped and burning with a twisted oathbound magic. No flesh remains—just will, bound by forgotten vows.
Backstory:
Once a knight of the Crucible Keep, Alric led his order in defense of the Verdure Meadows from an invading force. In his final stand, the king he served broke a sacred pact, sacrificing Alric and his men in exchange for peace. That treachery did not kill Alric—it undid him.
A court mage, unwilling to let such loyalty vanish, bound Alric’s soul into his armor. But the ritual failed. Instead of a protector, the knight returned a horror, driven not by commands but by the final vow he whispered: “No more broken oaths.”
Now, Alric hunts those whose words are false, whether mortal or divine.
