Stormwatch Rise

Stormwatch Rise

Stormwatch Rise is a lone hump of higher ground in an expanse of marsh—an exposed peat mound crowned with wet grass and ringed by wind-bent reeds that hiss and bow under the weight of steady rain.

Rich

Shallow water pools around its base, broken by scattered stones and tufts of rush, while the surrounding flats stretch outward like a pale, flooded mirror. At the top, a rough circle of standing stones keeps watch over the open mire, their weathered faces dark with runoff as if they’ve been drinking storms for centuries.

This is a battlefield that refuses to hold still. Gusts rake across the rise, driving sheets of rain sideways and turning footing into a slippery, shifting problem. Water climbs and spreads in thin, creeping fingers—flooding low pockets, swallowing paths, and forcing combatants to choose between exposed high ground and treacherous wading routes. Whether the stones are sacred, cursed, or simply ancient markers, the place feels like a storm has a claim on it—and anything that fights here does so under the sky’s judgment.

Intended Use:

Stormwatch Rise is perfect for set-piece encounters where weather is the “third faction.” Use it for last stands, ritual interruptions, signal fires, desperate negotiations, or battles against enemies who know how to use the storm as cover. The raised mound creates a natural objective zone—high visibility, good firing angles, and a sense of control—while the flooded marsh surrounding it punishes approach and makes flanking feel risky and slow. This is where parties fight for the high ground because they have to… and learn that high ground can be a trap when lightning, wind, and water turn against them.
